Philosophy
Children
We view children as capable, competent, and curious learners, rich in potential and strong in their thinking; a belief inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach.
The dignity, rights, and individuality of every child are respected.
Children are encouraged to share their voice; their ideas, theories, questions, and perceptions of the world are listened to, documented, and valued.
Long periods of uninterrupted play are prioritised, allowing children the time and space to explore ideas deeply, collaborate with others, problem-solve, and build sustained engagement in their learning.
Children are supported to develop independence and agency, building confidence in their ability to make choices and influence outcomes in their world.
Trusting relationships engage and support each child to feel secure, confident, included, and safe.
All children are supported and challenged to reach their individual potential.
Families & Community
We believe families are children’s first teachers and integral partners in their learning journey.
Collaborative partnerships with families enhance children’s inclusion, learning, and wellbeing.
Families are encouraged to actively contribute to our program by sharing insights, goals, cultural perspectives, and feedback that meaningfully shape our planning and practice.
Children’s learning goals are developed in collaboration with families and revisited regularly.
We are committed to actively participating in and supporting community events, fostering children’s strong sense of identity, belonging, and connection to place.
Environment & Sustainability
We believe the environment is a powerful teacher and an essential part of children’s learning.
Our inclusive learning environment promotes competence, exploration, and play-based learning.
Children engage with our natural environment in all weather, experiencing the rhythms and wonders of the seasons through hands-on exploration.
Our pet chickens and bunnies are a valued part of our preschool community, providing opportunities for children to develop empathy, responsibility, respect for living things, and an understanding of life cycles and care.
Children are empowered as environmental custodians, learning to care for the land, animals, plants, and each other, in recognition of our shared responsibility on Gadigal Land.
We intentionally provide a balance of open-ended and closed-ended resources that promote collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
Sustainable practices are embedded into everyday experiences, encouraging children to reduce waste, recycle thoughtfully, and use resources with care and respect.
Educational Program & Practice
Our educational program is informed by the Early Years Learning Framework and inspired by Reggio Emilia principles, valuing relationships, environment, and children’s voices as central to learning.
Predictable routines provide a sense of security while allowing flexibility to respond to children’s interests and emerging ideas.
A balance of structure and child agency supports children to build confidence, independence, and skills for a positive transition to school.
Educators are intentional, reflective, and responsive, using children’s interests, strengths, and theories as the foundation for programming.
Our fortnightly program cycle invites meaningful input from children and families, ensuring their voices are visible in our planning and documentation.
Children’s learning, culture, ideas, and creations are documented, showcased, and celebrated as part of the learning journey.
School readiness is embedded within everyday experiences and is understood as the development of strong social and emotional skills, resilience, confidence, and a love of learning.
Child Safety & Wellbeing
The safety, protection, and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to upholding the Child Safe Standards and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where children feel loved, respected, safe, and empowered to thrive.
Children's needs, rights, and best interests are at the centre of all decisions and practices.
We provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every child is heard, valued, and supported to reach their full potential.
Educators are carefully selected, trained, and supported to uphold professional, ethical, and child-safe practices.
Educators understand and fulfil their legal and ethical responsibilities as mandatory reporters.
We take proactive steps to prevent harm and respond promptly, transparently, and effectively when concerns arise.
We are committed to ongoing reflection, learning, and continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing.
